Department of Transport Offices – Ringwood
| November 16, 2022peckvonhartel was tasked with designing the Department of Transport offices in Ringwood, Australia.
The 11-storey fit out offers a Customer Service Centre, Lobby and Food Kiosk, a Business Centre, typical work floors, a 24/7 Transport Operations Centre, bookable, agile Project Spaces, and a Roof Terrace. Awarded a 6 Star Green Star Interior Design As-Built rating not only exceeds benchmarks, with few awarded each year, but the Department is targeting a 5.5 Star NABERS rating, representing market excellence.
The building offers a 50kW Solar PV System on the rooftop and highly efficient HVAC equipment to provide the best thermal comfort and the highest quality air ventilation. As well as thermal, the centre core creates the opportunity for windows to surround the entire perimeter, providing visual comfort and deep natural light penetration.
peckvonhartel designed the end-of-trip facilities, exceeding minimum requirements for its people and a 47kL rainwater tank is connected to the building’s toilet facilities, minimising water consumption within the building.
Specification of all finishes and furniture was critical in achieving a sustainable fit out and all products specified were evaluated for their ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and a minimum level of environmental accreditation. Locally sourced and Australian-made products were prioritised, or carbon credits sought.
The Roof Terrace offers an alternative workspace, views, and fresh air and a biophilia strategy meant that joinery was designed throughout the building that provided planting throughout the workplace and at every work point. Over 8,500 plants suitable to the location have been installed.
