It was built as Hotel d’Europe in 1869 before used as the Supreme Court and Municipal Building in late 1930s. Then changed to and used as the City Hall of Singapore until 2006.
The building historically was the place for the Allies to accept the formal surrender of Japanese Empire in 1945 and also used as the first office of Lee Kuan Yew, first PM of Singapore
