The Bureau of Meteorology Offices – Sydney
| December 10, 2020IA Design was engaged by the Bureau of Meteorology to redesign their offices located in Sydney, Australia.
The key aspirations for the project were to consolidate all functional requirements of the business from their current two floors on Level 15 and Level 16 down to one floor. With great consideration around keeping the operation of the business unaffected during these works, IA worked closely with the Services Engineers to reposition BoM’s technical functions while still ‘live’ achieving the least amount of disruption to their day to day operations.
There was a desire to introduce a stronger brand identity, showcasing their core business functions to clients & visitors on entry to their new space. This can be seen as rolling content on AV screens as well as indirect references through design and materiality. The concept of weather isobars can be seen to guide you through the space from the lobby through to reception, where areas of activation are highlighted in bond colour blocking, mimicking those you see on weather reporting.
Working collaboratively with the department ‘Champions,’ and external consultants was key to ensuring a full understanding of expectations and desires for the new facility were met.
